Happy Hogmanay | Transition To a New Year

Grassmarket 14.11.17

I’m not usually too interested in New Year celebrations, despite living in the city of Hogmanay. Working in hospitality means that this Festive Period tends to be my busiest time of year workwise and over the past few years I’ve never really had much chance to celebrate properly – this year I’m working and planning a few post-midnight celebratory glasses of Prosecco with my fiance and some colleagues but not too much else.

I’m not usually one for New Year’s Resolutions either (mostly because I’m terrible at keeping them!) but I feel the need this year to sum up the previous and make some plans for the 12 months ahead of me. A lot has happened in my life this past year and there is even more in the pipeline, so I want to round up and review 2017 in a way I’ve never felt the need to before.

2017 was the year where I finally felt like myself. I got engaged to the love of my life, we moved in together and got a cute naughty kitten. I really truly began to feel like I was in control of my career. I was Maid of Honour for my best friend during a trip of a lifetime to Vegas and California. I started planning my wedding and not only booked a venue and set a date but said YES to the dress of my dreams. I felt closer to my family and cemented some of the greatest female friendships I have. On a more superficial note I also think that this was the year where I found my true personal style and actually started to feel comfortable within my own skin.

It wasn’t all good – I lost two very important family members, felt distanced from some long-time friends and had a few ‘WTF’ moments both in my personal and professional life.

But.

I feel like I’m approaching this New Year with clear goals and priorities and am in a place where I’m only moving forward. I won’t write down any specific goals but I do have a good idea of what I want to achieve by the end of 2018.

This time next year I’ll be newly married and starting 2019 as a Mrs with plans to build a life (and hopefully a prospering business) with my new husband. I will (hopefully) have planned and executed a wonderful wedding and I also hope to have built some sort of personal space here on this blog where I want to document it all, so if you are at all interested then please stay tuned!

But for now, goodbye 2017 and Hello future!
